Both companies operate mainly online while having select showrooms throughout the United States (Brooklyn has Showrooms in Utah and Arizona, with certified partners carrying their product in California and New York. Brooklyn Bedding Overview
Brooklyn Bedding offers quality products at various price levels. They have also been around a while. Initially, the company started under a different name selling “like-new” mattresses at reduced prices. Now, they make six mattresses. Here is a list of what they offer:
- Range of quality
- Range in pricing
- A long trial period
- Good customer service
- Made in the United States
Models and Price
Brooklyn offers six different mattresses for various budgets. All but two of their mattresses are available in three different firmnesses (soft, medium, firm), giving you 14 different options. These beds range in price from $649 to $1999. Their three primary mattresses are the Brooklyn Bowery, the Brooklyn Signature, and the Brooklyn Aurora. They also sell the Spartan (targeted towards athletes), the Bloom Hybrid (made with Talalay Latex, wool, and organic cotton), and the Brooklyn Bowery Hybrid.
Their Bowery model, advertised as a budget mattress, is a good choice for those who don’t want to break the bank. The Brooklyn Signature is designated as their top seller. The Brooklyn Signature has 4 inches of foam. The first 2 inches use gel to promote a cool night’s sleep. The second 2 inches is transition foam between the comfort layer and the support layer, which is made of 6-inch pocketed coils. The language on their site implies the Brooklyn Signature is like memory foam, but it is not memory foam. This could help explain the discounted price as memory foam mattresses tend to be more expensive.
Amerisleep offers five different mattresses, the AS1, AS2, AS3, AS4, and AS5. The key difference between each of them is not quality (all of them contain plant-based memory foam), but function. The higher the number, the softer the mattress. Generally, side-sleepers tend to need a softer mattress, while dedicated stomach or back sleepers prefer a firmer mattress.
Depending on what your needs are – whether you are back sleeper, a side sleeper, a stomach sleeper, or a combination sleeper – Amerisleep probably has a solution.
Here is a list of all considered mattresses (based on the price of a Queen-size mattress):
- Brooklyn Bowery — $649
- Brooklyn Bowery Hybrid — $799
- Brooklyn Signature – $949
- Brooklyn Aurora — $1,699
- Bloom Hybrid – $1,799
- Spartan — $1,999
- AS1 – $1,199
- AS2 – $1,299
- AS3 – $1,399
- AS4 – $1,699
- AS5 –$2,099
The prices listed above are the regular, non-promotional prices. Brooklyn sometimes offers 20% off or more (as far as we can tell), while Amerisleep often offers $200 off any mattress.
Each company offers various levels of firmness. As mentioned above, the majority of Brooklyn Bedding’s mattresses come in three different firmnesses, firm, medium, and soft. There is no price change between the firmness levels, suggesting the amount of foam or coils doesn’t change, but the firmness of the foam layers and coils changes.
Amerisleep, on the other hand, provides a different model for five different firmness levels.
The AS1 model is the firmest and accommodates stomach and back sleepers.
The AS2 is medium-firm and accommodates stomach and back sleepers who want more support (Business Insider picked the AS2 as the best mattress for back pain). If back pain, especially lower back pain, is something you are currently experiencing, visit our post on finding the best mattress for lower back pain.
The AS3 is a medium firmness, designed to work with the majority of sleepers in the world (the AS3 was picked by Allure as one of the best mattresses to buy online).
The AS4 is a medium-soft mattress perfect for dedicated side sleepers.
The AS5 is the softest mattress, but it also contains an extra 2 inches of a special material called Active Flex, which is a latex-like material that provides great bounce and support to the mattress.
Material, Composition, and Comfort
All Brooklyn Bedding mattresses, save for one, the Brooklyn Bowery, use coils for their main support system. And while 3rd party review sites, such as Sleep Like the Dead, rate coil mattresses lower in quality than all-foam mattresses, Brooklyn Bedding does address a lot of the main concerns about coil mattresses.
Each Amerisleep mattress is built with the highest quality material. Each mattress uses Celliant® in the cover. Celliant® is FDA-determined1 to promote more restful sleep by increasing local blood flow.
Every mattress is built with a Bio-Pur® Layer. Bio-Pur® is an advanced, plant-based foam that promotes breathability and pressure relief. And, each model has their Bio-Core® Layer, which is the bottom layer that offers exception support and durability.
All of their mattresses, save for the AS1, use HIVE® technology, which is clinically proven to reduce pressure points by up to 49%2.
Additionally, Amerisleep is made partially with plant-based materials. Plus, their foam making process (VPF) releases virtually zero emissions into the atmosphere. And, they provide eco-friendly shipping and recyclable packaging. Not only are Amerisleep’s products advanced and comfortable, but they are also great for the environment.
Warranty and Trial
Both Amerisleep and Brooklyn Bedding offer quality free trials and warranties. This is a vital aspect of the online mattress industry. It allows for sleepers to try different brands and firmness levels without committing a large amount of money.
Amerisleep offers a 100 day no-risk trial period, and Brooklyn has a 120-day trial. However, in the long run, Amerisleep offers more coverage. Brooklyn Bedding provides a 10-year warranty for their beds. Amerisleep offers a warranty that lasts twice as long. Amerisleep’s warranty provides a 20-year warranty, with the first 10 years replacing a defective mattress for no additional cost.
What a mattress warranty covers are any sag or impression forming in the mattress. Amerisleep’s warranty requires the sag or impression to be greater than 3/4 inch, while Brooklyn requires the sag or impression to be greater than 1 inch.
Both companies offer mattresses that have garnered quality reviews. Although, Amerisleep’s averages are consistently higher than Brooklyn Bedding’s reviews.
The Brooklyn Signature is their’s most successful mattress. It has an average rating of 4.4 out of 5 on their company website. The Aurora also has a similar rating. Many of their other beds do not have enough ratings for an average on their site.
Amerisleep’s average rating on their company website for their bestselling mattress is 4.7 out of 5. Actually, out of 14,000 verified reviews, Amerisleep has an average of 4.7 out of 5. Also, 98% of Amerisleep customers would recommend their mattress to a friend.
Brooklyn Bedding does offer a variety of pricing and value across their three types of mattresses. Their average reviews are good. And, their most expensive mattress is a luxury mattress with the tech to back it up.
Then, there is the overwhelming quality Amerisleep provides. Amerisleep boasts a well-rounded experience with five different types of mattresses. This way, no matter what type of sleeper you are, you have a luxury option at an affordable price. Each bed is outfitted with the best technology on the market. They are known for guaranteed satisfaction. And, every Amerisleep mattress is eco-friendly, all the way from bed composition to the shipping process.

1 The FDA has determined that Celliant® products are medical devices as defined in section 201(h) of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act and are general wellness products. Celliant® is determined by the FDA to temporarily promote increased local blood flow at the site of application in healthy individuals. Hologenix, LLC, the maker of Celliant®, states that Celliant® safely converts body heat to infrared energy. This energy penetrates into the muscle and tissue to promote a temporary increase in local blood flow and helps increase comfort and promotes restful sleep.
